Talking Rubbish Podcast Calls on Dog Poo Bag Brands to Clean Up Compostable Claims
The Talking Rubbish podcast has published an open letter to companies selling compostable dog poo bags, urging them to update misleading marketing and clarify how their products should be disposed of.
The sustainability-focused podcast, hosted by James Piper and Robbie Staniforth, says many consumers mistakenly believe compostable dog poo bags will naturally biodegrade in the environment, when in reality, there are no UK facilities that can compost them, and dog waste must be handled with care if composted at home.
The open letter calls on brands to follow the Green Claims Code and Advertising Standards Authority guidance. The team argues that clearer communication will reduce consumer confusion and prevent littering caused by misplaced faith in “eco” labels.
In a positive twist, Talking Rubbish is offering an incentive: the first three companies to update their website copy will receive a free 30-second podcast advert and a spot in the show’s new “Hall of Fame” for responsible brands.
“Our goal isn’t to call anyone out,” said co-host James. “We want to help good businesses avoid greenwash and give customers the right information. Compostable dog poo bags can be part of the solution, but only if people know how to use and dispose of them properly.”
